Entangled

Prelude

Part -1

Kavya sat in a balcony of her 10th floor sea facing 3-BHK flat in the suburbs of Mumbai. This was her favorite part of the house. She loved it so much that Rajiv used to tease her that she could spend her lifetime sitting here, which in a way wasn't wrong. Kavya loved beaches. The sound of waves against the rocks, the cool breeze, the calm yet ferocious nature of sea..she loved it all. Every evening after coming back from NGO, where she worked, she used to spend her time sitting in the balcony soaking in the beauty of sea against the stunning backdrop of setting sun.

Kavya and Rajiv were married for two years. Rajiv was an Investigating Officer with Narcotics Control Bureau. His busy schedule left him with little time for Kavya. Kavya belonged from an Army background and hence she understood Rajiv's responsibilites very well. Initially Rajiv and Kavya were living in Delhi but soon they had to relocate to Mumbai due to Rajiv's work commitments.

Kavya glanced at the clock. It was going to be 6:30 P.M.. Rajiv had asked her to be ready till 7:30 P.M. as they had to attend a party thrown by Amay, Rajiv's childhood friend, who got engaged two days back.

Amay and Rajiv had been best friends since childhood.Rajiv was a single child and in Amay he found a brother he never had. They had been partners in crime since forever; be it stealing mangoes from their neighbour's garden,  getting punished for not submitting assignments or bunking classes for a movie; they were always together as a support to each other not only in good times but also during bad times. When Amay lost his parents in a freak accident, Rajiv was there to support him. And with time their friendship grew more stronger. Rajiv was never a social person. He prefered staying at home whenever he got time and hence he didn't had many friends. Perhaps Amay was the only one he could call a friend. He trusted him with his life.

Kavya quickly freshened up and changed into a black gown. She was about to call Rajiv when the door bell rang. She quickly went to open the door thinking it to be Rajiv, but all she found was a packet at the doorstep. She looked down the stairs but couldn't find anyone. She took the packet inside and opened it to view its contents. The ground beneath her shook. She was shocked at what she saw. Suddenly the doorbell rang again.

Rajiv was sitting in his office cabin pondering over the latest case of drug trafficking. He had recently got some serious leads through his informer which was enough to nail the drug peddlers and put an end to the whole drug mafia network. He was working on those leads when he got a call on his cellphone from a private number. When he took that call all he heard was a gunshot and a shrieking voice which he recognized instantly.
