Charred Dreams

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 42; the forty-second edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton. The theme for the month is "COLOR"
*************

"She has suffered 60% burns. We have shifted her to I.C.U. We can't say anything right now.", said the doctor and rushed inside the room.

*************

He was devastated. What had she done to infuriate someone to this extent that he poured acid on her? Was rejecting someone's love, whom she did not love back, a crime? Was standing up for what she felt is right, a crime? She was his little girl who would never do any wrong to someone. She always helped people in their need, in whatever ways she could, irrespective of whether she knew them or not. But for all her goodness, this is what she got in return; lying on the bed in I.C.U. with various tubes piercing her burnt body, struggling for her life every second, while the person responsible for her condition roamed freely out there, searching for his next victim.

He was amazed how quickly his daughter had grown up. It felt like yesterday when the nurse had handed him, his little bundle of joy, Tanvi. She was so small and delicate, he feared hurting her. Life had played such a cruel game with him, he was at the same hospital again only to see her daughter writhing in pain. Some heartless person had caused her so much agony in the name of love and he could not do anything. Never in his life had he felt so helpless. He felt the father in him has been defeated for he could not protect his little angel.

 *************

"Dr. Verma is calling you in his cabin.", informed the nurse

"Mr. Mathur, please sit"

"Doctor, how is my daughter?"

"She is doing fine. Her face has been disfigured. Though a series of surgeries will help in correcting it to an extent but that's a later stage. Right now, we are keeping a close watch on her vital parameters. As of now they are under control. Luckily there has been not much damage to her other organs but..."

"But? But what doctor?", he asked anxiously

"I am sorry to say, Mr. Mathur, but she will never be able to see again."

He felt the ground beneath him move. Tears flowed from his eyes. He was inconsolable.

"Please doctor, do something. There might be some way. There is so much advanced techniques available nowadays. Please try. I am sure she will..."

"Mr. Mathur, I am doctor, it is my duty to save my patient at all costs. We have tried our best. We have consulted with the best eye specialists but there's nothing that can be done. The acid was poured on her face because of which the vision in both her eyes has been permanently damaged."

 *************

As he walked out of the doctor's cabin, his eyes fell on the painting hung on the adjacent wall. He remembered how Tanvi used to paint. A look into her cupboard and anyone could tell how much she loved painting. While other girls of her age have cupboards overflowing with shoes, clothes and other accessories, Tanvi had rather stored painting brushes, palette, watercolors and other painting related stuff. Even her room was painted according to her wishes. She loved colors and she made sure everything around her was colorful. Two weeks back, she had started making his portrait. It was going to be the main attraction of the first painting exhibition, which she was going to organize next month. She was going to unravel her talent in front of the world. Her dream was on the verge of fulfillment.

"You are the star of my exhibition, Dad. This is your birthday gift, from your princess. I hope you love this.", she had said excitedly

"Of course, I will. The world is going to get a new star, and that star is you, my princess. You are soon going to live your dream. What else can I ask for?", he had said smiling through the tears of happiness

A smile lit his face, as he remembered the conversation. But the very next moment the doctor's words were ringing in his head, and the reality dawned upon him.

He stood outside I.C.U. and stared at his daughter. He felt numb. He felt defeated at the game that destiny had played. He always wanted to color his daughter's life in happiness. But now the only thing that remained was darkness. He was scared. What will happen when Tanvi will get to know this? How will he even console her? The girl who has grown up with colors all around her, will never be able to see any other color except black. He felt a lump in his chest and he collapsed on the bench crying for his daughter, crying for the injustice done to her, crying on his helplessness, crying for all those innocent girls who will be the targets of such men.

*************

The doctors say that the acid has burnt her body, disfigured her face and made her lose her vision. They can only see the visible scars. What about those invisible scars that one small bottle of acid has left on her soul? What about her charred dreams? Visible scars give some pain but ultimately they heal with time. It is the invisible scars that kills you with every breath you take.

Story Of A Scarred Soul

She was young, she was naive,
embarking on a journey to a new phase,
she trusted all, whoever she met,
for she believed there's something good in everyone,
she was shy, couldn't mingle much,
yet she tried to make new friends, she felt happy in her big friends circle,
suddenly life seemed to be a bed of roses,
but she was young, she was naive,
embarking on a journey to a new phase..

Gradually things got complicated,
the never ending circle broke and scattered around,
still she found happiness that even after being apart they are together,
but she was young, she was naive,
embarking on a journey to a new phase..

As she was still learning to deal with it,
life gave her another jolt,
when her best friend ignored her,
and she didn't know who was at fault,
she tried to talk and find out the truth,
but all she got was a silence and she gave up,
she was sad but moved on,
to find her happiness on her own,
she tried to mingle with her other friends,
but she was young, she was naive,
embarking on a journey to a new phase..

Soon she found a whole new world,
she was happy, she was satisfied,
but she knew the underlying truth that it was nothing but a one sided friendship,
but her friends were her family hence she was happy,
she was on cloud nine,
when her best friend came back,
now her family seemed perfect and complete,
but she was young, she was naive,
embarking on a journey to a new phase..

Her happiness was short lived as she found out the real faces behind the masks,
she was hurt and felt betrayed,
"Why did you do this to me?", she asked,
but all she got was an indifferent look,
"You guys meant a lot to me but now all I am left with is my broken heart and scarred soul. Tell me how, how will I ever trust again?", she howled and cried,
"You have got some misunderstanding. We aren't what you think", they said,
but her strength was lost and trust broken,
she was left numbed by her once upon a time friends,
soon she realized that this is the truth,
life's not always fair and forever good,
she got up and said to herself,
"If you don't care then why should I? For you it was a game, but I had pure friendship in mind. I don't know why you did this and made me cry but I won't let you win ever because its you who lost not I"

She was young but no more naive,
she was determined never to let anyone hurt her again..
her new journey had begun and she had faith,
that life may not be fair and good but its beautiful always..

Make A Wish...For It Might Come True!

This post has been published by me as a part of the Blog-a-Ton 40; the fortieth edition of the online marathon of Bloggers; where we decide and we write. To be part of the next edition, visit and start following Blog-a-Ton. The theme for the month is "MAKE A WISH"

"Doctor! Doctor!", shouted the nurse as she rushed out of room no. 104 towards the doctor's cabin.

***************

Fifty years back....

"Samar! What's all this?", asked Kriti amused at what she saw.
"Your birthday gift, sweetheart"
"Gift???? Or a gift with an "s"? There are 25 of them. Why so many gifts?", asked Kriti
"Because it's your 25th birthday, so one gift for each year", winked Samar
"Have you gone mad?", asked Kriti
"Nah, just fallen in love"
"Oh come on, Samar. Be serious."
"Kriti, doesn't it ring a bell? I only fulfilled your wish", said Samar
"You actually took that seriously? It was just a stupid wish of a teenaged girl", replied Kriti surprised and shocked at what had happened.
"Your wish is my command, love and all your stupid wishes are important for me and I'll fulfill them no matter what happens", said Samar smiling looking at Kriti's surprised face
"Samar, you are mad"
"Only for you, love", winked Samar
"Yeah right"
"Happy Birthday Kriti"
"Oh Samar, thank you so much. I love you"
"But I love you more", said Samar teasingly
"I know", said Kriti and they laughed...

***************

As the doctor and nurses rushed into the room, they were overwhelmed by what they saw.

***************

Few hours back.....

She lay on the hospital bed with tubes running through her body while the machine kept at the side beeped at regular intervals.
Samar sat besides her, holding her hand.
"Hey love", whispered Samar
Kriti opened her eyes and smiled at what she saw. The whole room was decorated with flowers.
"Happy birthday", said Samar and kissed her forehead
"Thank you so much Samar", said Kriti as a tear trickled down her face
"Old woman, you and your tears. Can't you smile and be happy without them?", mocked Samar
"Shut up, old man!", said Kriti smilingly
"Okay...Okay.. you can cry later. Now its time to cut the cake.", said Samar as he brought the cake
"Cake? Here? I thought you would take me out of here", said Kriti mocking him
"Sorry love, i tried but these doctors won't let you go. Might be we can sneak out at midnight and go for a date. Just you and me.", winked Samar
"Yeah right", laughed Kriti
He helped her sit up comfortably and placed the cake at the small table at her side.
Kriti was about to cut the cake when Samar held her hand
"Aren't you forgetting something?"
"What?",  asked a confused Kriti
"Make a wish, love", winked Samar
"Samar, i have run out of wishes now. You have fulfilled every single wish of mine. Getting to spend my life with you was a blessing for me. Thank you for every single thing you did for me. All i wish now is to have you by my side till my last breath. I love you Samar. You are the best gift of my life", said a crying Kriti
"I promise you my love, I won't ever leave you alone. I'll be with you till my last breath and even after that. And you know what?"
"What?"
"I love you more",winked Samar
"I know", said a smiling Kriti

***************

There was pin-drop silence in the room. No beeping sound of machine, no sounds of laughter, only silence. In that decorated room, amidst the silence, lay an old couple on the hospital bed, sleeping peacefully, with a smile on their face and holding hands, symbolizing that they are together in their new journey.

The Beginning Of The End

somewhere down the line,
when you lose hope,
when you find yourself alone in a room full of people,
when you begin to fake smiles and hide tears,
when you bottle up your feelings,
when you give up on everything that once mattered,
when you aimlessly stare at your future,
when you begin to accept your defeat,
starts a journey...
a journey on a pathless path,
a journey which marks the beginning of the end...

Entangled

Prelude Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Part 4 (Concluding Part)

Meera was busy with her wedding shopping when she received a phone call regarding Amay's arrest. She was distraught. Her worst fears had come true. She rushed to the police station to meet Amay.

Amay who by now understood everything burst out on Meera.

"How dare you implicate me? Do you know how much shattered Rajiv is? He thinks I killed Kavya!! I will tell the truth to everyone. I won't spare you. I loved you Meera..Why did you do this to me?", asked an angry Amay

"Amay, believe me..i didn't do anything. I love you..Even i am shocked by your arrest.", cried Meera.

"Shut up. No one else knows the truth except us then how did those photographs reach Rajiv?"asked Amay

"Amay, even you don't know the complete truth", confessed Meera.

On the other hand..Rajiv was feeling terrible for falsely implicating Amay. He knew Amay was innocent. Those photographs were fake, he himself had planted them. He knew it was wrong but he had no other option other than to use Amay to make Meera confess about her involvement in drug trafficking. He had installed camera in the cell where Amay was kept so as to record each and every conversation.

"What do you mean?", asked a puzzled Amay

"You remember that night when I went to meet Kavya and saw her in a pool of blood and I called you for help?", asked Meera

"Yeah..so?",quizzed Amay

"It wasn't a coincidence. It was me who shot her. But then i freaked out and called you for help. I knew i had to get out of this mess. So I lied to you.", said Meera

Amay was shocked at what he heard, at the same time confused too.

"But why did you kill Kavya?" asked a shaken Amay

"Kavya and I were involved in drug trafficking. We were involved in this since five years. But then she fell in love and everything got ruined. She wanted to put an end to all this. When she got to know of our engagement, she started forcing me to tell the truth to you. I feared if you got to know the truth you might leave me and go. Kavya had nothing to lose. Rajiv would have forgiven her but I would have lost everything. So i went to meet her that day to convince her to keep her mouth shut. But when I met her, she showed me the packet which she had received. It contained our photographs and other proofs related to drug trafficking which could have landed us behind the bars. Kavya was hell bent on telling everything to Rajiv. I tried convincing her. But she wasn't listening so i tried to scare her with the gun. I never meant to kill her. I was only trying to scare her. But we got into a scuffle and I accidentally shot her.", said Meera and burst out into tears

Rajiv who was listening to this confession was shocked. He could believe what he just heard.

"How could Kavya be involved in all this? No..all this is a lie. His Kavya couldn't harm anyone. She was a loving person. She couldn't be involved in drugs." he tried to convince himself.

But somewhere deep down he knew whatever Meera said was actually a bitter truth. He had all the evidence which proved Kavya guilty. The truth that he was avoiding till now stood bare in front of him.

"And then you called me so that i can help you hide that gun and hide everything from Rajiv, right?", asked Amay

"Yes. I knew only you could help me. I didn't want to lose you. I knew Rajiv won't believe me if I told him the truth", said Meera

"I wish you had been so honest with me before Meera. All this could have been avoided.", cried Amay.

Rajiv was shattered but he somehow composed himself and fulfilled his duty by arresting Meera. She gave them the photographs and other proofs and also told them about the other drug dealers and their hideouts. Soon everyone was arrested and put behind the bars.

Amay was also arrested for concealing the facts and for helping Meera in hiding the murder weapon.

One Year Later.....

Rajiv quit his job and started working for an NGO dealing with drug addicts. Amay started helping Rajiv with NGO after he was released from jail. Both of them lost their love yet their friendship was still intact. Rajiv apologized to Amay for falsely implicating him while Amay apologized for whatever Meera did. Both of them wanted to move on to a new future but when it became unbearable they used to go to the beach and spend their entire day watching the waves. Somehow their silence communicated with each other and they used to go back home feeling light and content.
