A stormy night
Thunder for company
She lies cozily wrapped in a blanket
With a book in hand, ready to drift off into a fiction world
Lights out, and darkness engulfs
Forgot buying candles again, she curses herself
Living alone in the cottage of a quaint town has its perks
Solitude, freedom and no nosy neighbours
But on nights like these, when nature shows its beauty
She sits uptight
Her ears alert, knife in hand, half expecting to hear a sound
Yet there is a eerie silence around
So much that she could hear her heartbeats aloud
A drop of sweat trickle downs her face
And the cool breeze sends shivers down her spine
A perfect night for a perfect crime
Her bibliophile mind wanders to the dark place
Rattling windows sent her heart thumping out of her chest
A silhouette near the window added to her nightmare
Clutching the knife, she moved ahead
To find the murderer lurking in the shadows
Darkness brings the fear of unknown
The things you know only makes you stronger, she said to herself
She reached the window and found no one
Relaxed, she let out a sigh and drew in the curtains
Double checked the locks and went back to bed
Something was still amiss, she could sense
Fear gripped her again when she heard him say
Did you forgot about the monsters under your bed?
